Isuzu Challenge 2003, will be in August of 2003 and will take place in the Australian Outback. The route promises to be an exciting one beginning in the Flinders Ranges area, moving through the Simpson Desert and north to Queensland and Cape York. Ecological Goal Isuzu Challenge will focus on its contribution toward an ecological goal in Australia by donating toward the research project studying the endemic species of the salt-water crocodile that is in danger of extinction due to invasion of man into its habitat. Isuzu Challenge will participate by donating satellite tracking systems that will follow the adult crocodile in nature. This is the first tracking project of its kind for this particular species and will contribute toward a greater understanding of the crocodiles living habits. The salt-water crocodile is a huge animal shy but dangerous. This becomes a problem in areas where people dwell and the animal always loses. This research project will attempt to resolve the subsequent conflict between man and crocodile and thus aid in the prevention of extinction of the salt-water crocodile.
Isuzu Challenge will hold a Multi-National Expedition following the original Isuzu Challenge expedition (to be held in August). Taking advantage of the excellent vehicles well equipped for this kind of trip and the complex logistics and infrastructure already in place, this is a unique opportunity for a self-driven 4WD expedition of the high standards of the Isuzu Challenge. True lovers of the outdoors from all over the world will be able to join the team and experience a fascinating,

challenging voyage in the wild Aussie Outback, crossing rivers and creeks swarming with crocodiles, swamps, eucalyptus savannas and rainforests on a daily basis. The expedition will take place in one of the remote regions of Australia - Cape York. - "Queen of the Outback". Covering an area of 207,000 sq km, it has only 15,000 inhabitants and remains one of the last frontiers of Australia. This area was first inhabited 40,000 years ago by the Aborigines and one of the first areas in Australia the English encountered when Captain Cook and his crew landed there some 230 years ago and claimed the continent for England. Due to the harsh climate, settling of the land is sparse and most of it remains untouched. Cape York Peninsula is divided by The Great Dividing Range. East and toward the Coral Sea there are numerous rainforests with a diversity of trees unknown elsewhere in Australia. Facing the coast lays the Great Barrier Reef named a World Heritage Site. West of the Great Dividing Range are the famous open savannas and vast Eucalyptus forests. Tens of rivers and creeks run from The Great Dividing Range east and west creating basins flooding the plains during the rainy season, making most of the area inaccessible even by 4WD vehicles. Our vehicles are specially equipped for the high demands of the Isuzu Challenge Expedition. A professional team of Expedition leader, guide, 4WD experts, mechanic and physician accompany the expedition. Campsites and some hotels are carefully chosen and a local catering team will accompany you, creating an extraordinary culinary environment while camping.
